This Disability Aide position is a full time position 8 hours a day, 12 months per year, and eligible for benefits (medical, dental, vision, life insurance) and retirement plan (retirement eligibility is after 13 months of employment). Rate of pay is $16.52. Must be proficient in speaking, reading, and writing in English.
KEY FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the Mental Health and Disabilities Manager, the Disability Aide assists teachers in the delivery of educational and behavioral interventions of Special Education students as well as students who are identified as requiring individualized support in the general education preschool setting. The Disability Aide will work closely with classroom teachers, parents, and the Mental Health and Disability Manger to ensure the child receives the modifications and accommodations needed to fully participate in program services and activities.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Assist in implementing modifications and accommodations to help meet the cognitive and physical needs of the child.
- Deliver interventions to help students meet educational, academic, life skills, behavioral, physical, and social emotional goals.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to provide preventative behavior management for students exhibiting disruptive behaviors.
- Assist in maintaining an open, friendly, cooperative relationship with the child's family, teachers, staff, and specialists.
- Learn and implement a variety of individualized education programs and behavior plans to assist teachers in accommodating students in the classroom.
- Provide targeted teacher coaching to ensure program responsiveness to children’s needs.
- Attend to health care and physical needs of students which may include: feeding, toileting, diapering, responding to medical emergencies, and handling equipment.
- Participate in staff meetings, training, and professional development opportunities as directed.
- Understand and maintain a commitment to confidentiality and professionalism.
- Complete documentation of services, supports, interventions, and observations as directed.
- Secretarial duties as assigned.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Basic knowledge of child development, disabilities, and individualized education programs
- Experience working with children
- Dependable
- Flexible-adaptable to frequent change
- Excellent communication skills
- Able to get Infant/Toddler or Preschool CDA
- Able to get a food handlers permit and become certified in First Aid and CPR
- Must pass a background check
- Must have reliable transportation
- Must be able to lift 40 lbs.
- Must be able to sit, kneel, and get up from the floor and small chairs frequently.
